Dr. Edward Bach, the creator of the Bach Flower Remedies, designed his system to be simple and accessible, allowing everyone to benefit from these remedies for self-help. However, I often hear from my clients that there’s some confusion, primarily because there’s so much information available. To clear up any uncertainties, I thought I’d share this blog post to remind everyone of the simple instructions Dr. Bach left for using his remedies.

There are two main ways to take Bach Flower Remedies: one for long-term emotional imbalances and the other for transient emotional states.

For Long-Term Emotional Imbalances

When treating long-term emotional issues, the best approach is to select a maximum of 7 remedies that suit your personal needs. (A great way to start is by consulting a professional practitioner registered with the Bach Centre, as they can guide you in choosing the right remedies for your unique situation.)

If you have a consultation with a practitioner, they will either send you a personalized remedy mix or suggest that you purchase the stock bottles of the remedies and prepare your own mix. Some of my clients, after continuing their healing journey, choose to buy the stock bottles themselves so they always have them on hand.

How to Prepare Your Personal Remedy Mix:

  1. Get a 30ml (1 oz) dropper glass bottle.

  2. Clean the bottle thoroughly and let it dry.

  3. Fill the bottle with spring water (not tap water, as this is important) but leave about a teaspoon of space at the top.

  4. Add two drops of each remedy you’ve selected.

  5. Add a teaspoon of brandy, apple cider vinegar, or vegetable glycerine to preserve the mix. (I personally store mine in the fridge when I'm at home.)

How to Take Your Personal Remedy Mix:

Take 4 drops at least 4 times a day. You can take them more frequently if needed—there's no risk of overdose.

For Transient Emotional States

For short-term emotional states or passing moods, Dr. Bach recommended the “Glass of Water” method.

How to Use the Glass of Water Method:

  1. Fill a glass (size doesn’t matter) with water (you can also use your favorite drink, fruit juice, or herbal tea—mothers often put drops in baby bottles, as Bach remedies are safe for babies too!).

  2. Add 2 drops of each remedy you feel you need in the moment.

  3. Sip the water slowly throughout the day until the glass is finished. You can also make multiple glasses if you feel you need them.

Often, if the remedies you selected are right for your emotional state, you’ll begin feeling better after just a few sips.

Key Reminders:
  • Always take 2 drops from the stock bottles and 4 drops from personal remedy mixes (including the Emergency Formula, also known as Rescue Remedy).

  • You can take the remedies at any time—there are no restrictions regarding food, drink, or other medications. Bach Flower Remedies do not interfere with any of these.

  • If you prefer to avoid the remedies preserved in alcohol, you'll be happy to know they are now available in a non-alcoholic, glycerin-based formula, too."

Wishing you a joyful and healing journey with Bach Flower Remedies.
